How to choose an AI search visibility tool in 2026: a buyer's guide

AI visibility and GEO tools range from $29/month trackers to $2,000+/month enterprise suites, and most of them only measure the problem. Here's how to work out which tier you actually need.

The AI-visibility tool market has grown fast enough that most buyers spend more time comparing feature lists than deciding what they actually need. Before you open a single pricing page, answer one question honestly: do you need to know you have a visibility problem, or do you need help fixing it? Almost every tool in this category does the first job. A much smaller number attempt the second. That distinction, more than any feature checklist, is what should decide your shortlist.

The market splits into three tiers

1. SEO incumbents adding an AI layer. Long-established SEO platforms (the kind that already do keyword research, backlink analysis, and rank tracking) have bolted AI-visibility monitoring onto their existing suites, usually as an add-on module. You get deep historical SEO data and a brand you already trust, but AI visibility is typically a reporting layer sitting on top of a much bigger, more expensive product, not something built for it from the ground up.

2. Purpose-built AI-visibility platforms. A wave of specialist tools was built specifically to track how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and Google's AI Overviews describe a brand. Some of the more capable ones now go beyond monitoring into content briefs or optimisation suggestions. These are usually the most technically sophisticated options, and pricing tends to reflect it: the more capable self-serve tiers commonly start in the high hundreds of dollars a month, before enterprise/custom pricing.

3. Accessible, monitoring-first tools. A cluster of lower-cost tools makes AI-visibility tracking accessible to smaller businesses, often starting under US$50/month. They're the easiest on-ramp into the category, but almost all of them stop at telling you what's wrong. You still have to go and fix it yourself, in whatever content or PR workflow you already run.

On pricing

Roughly, as surveyed across public pricing pages in mid-2026: simple monitoring tools start around US$29-50/month, tools that add content or optimisation features commonly sit at US$99-299/month, and full enterprise suites run US$400 to several thousand dollars a month depending on prompt volume and engine coverage. This category re-prices often, so treat any specific figure you read anywhere (including here) as a starting point to verify on the vendor's current pricing page, not a quote.

Questions worth asking any vendor before you buy

  • Which AI engines does it actually track, and how often? "AI visibility" can mean anything from a weekly check across 3 chatbots to a daily crawl across 10 engines including Google's AI Overviews specifically (which behaves differently from the Gemini app and is worth tracking separately).
  • Does it show you real citations, or just a visibility score? A score with no underlying evidence is hard to act on. Ask to see an example of what a "mention" actually looks like in the tool.
  • What happens after it finds a gap? Does the tool stop at the finding, hand you a content brief, or actually produce something you can publish? Be specific about which of those three you're buying.
  • Does it cover more than web content? Most tools in this category stop at your website. If social presence, competitor moves, or the conversations that visibility generates matter to you, ask directly, because most vendors won't volunteer that this is out of scope.
  • What's the real all-in price at the volume you need? Prompt-based and credit-based pricing models can look cheap at the entry tier and get expensive fast once you add engines, seats, or monthly query volume. Ask for the price at your actual expected usage, not the headline number.
  • Is there a free trial or a free report? Several vendors, including Coderra, offer a free AI visibility scan before you pay for anything. Use it; a live example of how your own business is described is worth more than any feature comparison.

Where Coderra fits

Coderra's AISO sits closer to the "does it actually fix it" end of that list than most of the category. Alongside AI-visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity, it includes a business-aware assistant (Ask AISO), a content generator for closing the gaps it finds, and, unusually for this category, a social content and publishing layer through Social Studio, plus CommOps for handling the conversations that visibility actually generates. Pricing is published on our pricing page in AUD, with a free tier to start.

We're not the right fit for everyone on this list. If you specifically need deep historical backlink and keyword data alongside AI visibility, an SEO incumbent's bundle will serve you better. If you're a large enterprise with a dedicated team that needs the deepest prompt-volume data available, a specialist enterprise platform may be worth the price. Coderra's honest lane is businesses that want the finding and the fix, without an enterprise contract.

Named comparisons

If you already know the category and are down to a head-to-head, these spoke posts go deeper than a market map:

Each one opens with who should pick which, includes a comparison table, and states where the other product genuinely wins.

See how your business is described right now.

Run a free AISO scan before you compare a single pricing page. It's the fastest way to know what you're actually shopping for.
